Fishing Report:

08-10-05

The sea has returned to normal after Emily. All offshore species are on a hot bite. For example, during a two day TIFT at Port Isabel last week 91 billfish were caught.   42 Blue Marlin were tagged and released and 2 Blues weighed in; the largest being  463 lb.

06-20-05

The Red Snapper and King fish bite is red hot. The shrimpers are back and good catches of tuna, dolphin, and ling are being caught fishing around these anchored boats. If you would like to catch some nice fish just give me a call.  I have some open dates in July and August.

Note:  The Port Mansfield and TIFT tournaments are scheduled for the last week end of July and the first week of August, respectively.

06-07-05

Fishing is hot offshore of Port Mansfield, TX. Bull Red fish in excess of 40" can be caught off the end of the jetties on cut or finger mullet. The Red Snapper and King Mackerel bite is hot. Several Sharks are being brought in. Sailfish can be caught in areas where you find weeds and flying fish.  Blue water starts between 15 and 20 nm. The Tuna bite should pick up with the return of the shrimp boats on July 15. Over all it looks like excellent fishing offshore for the rest of July.

05-28-05 & 05-29-05

Good catches of Red Snapper, Ling, King Fish, Bonito and Sharks are being brought in. The water temperature is now in the upper 70s. Blue water is within 15 nm offshore.

05-15-05 & 05-16-05

Seas are down to 1-3 ft. and 2-4 ft. water temperature offshore 20 - 50 nm is in the mid 70s. Lots of scattered weeds making a lot of work for trollers but worth the effort.  Some larger patches of weeds can be found but they are also scattered. Fish are on the move, great catches of Red Snapper, Kings, and Amberjack have been caught recently fishing Rigs, Rocks and Wrecks. Chicken Dolphin are showing up around weed lines along with some nice Wahoo. Expect offshore fishing for the next few weeks in May to be really good.

Reminder:  The "Willacy Co. Young Farmers Fishing Tournament" is the last weekend of May in Port Mansfield, TX. Check out their web site:    http://www.wcyf.org/

04-16-05

Left Port Mansfield jetties at 7:30 AM headed for the Mansfield Rocks for some State water Red Snapper action. After a 15 nm run in 71.5 degree water with 2-4 ft. seas and a good South East breeze, we started our drift using squid and cut Bonito for bait. By 9:15 AM we had our limit of snapper from 18" to 24" and decided to troll back toward the jetties and check for Kings.

Deployed two lures (1.) a pink UZI and (2.) 6" Rattle Trap. Nothing happened until we reached the 7 fathoms rocks and the rubber band holding the UZI in place is broken by a solid hit from a 20 lb. Jack Fish. Did not find the Kings in State waters.

I will know more about the position of the Kings after April 21. Red Snapper season in Federal waters opens on April 21 and I will be spending more time farther off shore.

04-08-05

Seas flat < 2 ft. Water temperature 70 degrees. Excellent Red Snapper bite in State Waters 58 - 70 ft. deep. Limits of Red Snapper being caught weighing 5-10 lbs. on cut Bonito and cut Ballyhoo. Kings are not in shallow water yet but can be found farther offshore.

03-24-05

Wind conditions still prevail with seas 2-4 ft. Red Snapper excellent in Texas waters up to 9 lbs on squid and cut Bonito fished in 50-60 ft of water.

03-25-05

Wind only 5-10 knots, seas <2 ft. and fog with visibility less than 1 mile. Water temperature 66-67 degrees. All on board limited on Red Snapper in State waters in less than an hour. Fish are running between 4-10 lbs with very few undersized fish caught. Best bait cut Bonito and squid using circle hooks.
