Near Shore

Red Snapper fishing is excellent with limits of double digit Snappers being caught in both state and federal waters. The King Mackerel are in shallow 30-45 ft of water. Kings in the 10 - 30 lb range can be caught on 7" diving baits trolled 4.5 -5.5 knots within 2 miles of the Port Mansfield jetties. My favorite color is white with red head. Still lots of 20-30 lb Jacks and 5-8 lb Bonito around the mouth of the jetties out to three miles.

Offshore

The Wahoo bite is good in 40 to 60 fathoms on plugs and surface baits. Best color black & purple or black and red with silver tinsel.  Dorado in the 5-10 lb range are being caught off weed lines and floating debris.  Sailfish are being caught on Islanders with ballyhoo anywhere you can find bait balls.

Well, between the damage done by Katrina and Rita along with the Port Mansfield jetties silting in I am finally back. For a long time my webmaster, Webs-2-Geaux, who is located in the New Orleans area, was out of commission. He is now back up and running. The South East wind is keeping 5-6 ft. of water in the jetties so we have access to the Gulf.

Red Snapper season in Federal waters opened April 21 with plenty of nice Snapper waiting for you very close in. The Kings are starting to move toward shallower water and the Jack Crevalle are schooled in two -three large schools in 35-40 ft. of water  just off the mouth of the jetties. Look for huge dark spots in the green water and drag a Rapala CD18 by them and hold on. Lots of fun.
